  The Republique Francaise Embassy
The building erected between 1928 and 1933 was designed by one of the most eminent representatives of the Art Deco, a French architect Roger-Henri Expert. The position of the embassy to be depended on the sloping terrain of the two meeting streets, which Expert solved in an ingenious manner - by gradually lightening the massive base of the building. The white marble façade contains flags with shallow relief of French motifs and symbols.
On top of the façade are three female figures cast in bronze, bearing olive branches in their arms, as symbols of peace, harvest, purity, strength, victory and reward. The figures are works of a sculptor Sarrabesollas. Our national sculptor, Petar Palavicini, did several relief items on the garden-side façade. The relief carver was Josip-Pino Grassi.
